My Journey to Journaling

I like many others had tried to keep a Journal and terribly failed. I still sometimes find prior "Journals" with about 2 pages filled with my feelings. Despite this fact, I woke up one morning with the intense desire to buy a Journal. So I drove myself to Marshals that day and bought myself the cutest Journal I could find. I wrote in it daily but then found myself skipping one day then two days then 2 weeks... so on and so forth. Well it just so happens that one one day I found a video online of one of my favorite youtubers explaining how she journaled. I thought it would be excellent to watch given my not so perfect journal track record. The way she wrote her journals intrigued me ,one page was her daily bible study and the other page was her writing. One thing I found so cool that she did was that she wrote in a way that was a letter to God, so her journal was one huge prayer.

I absolutely loved this idea and quickly started to do the same now just molding her format to my own style. This is how I do mine and you guys are welcome to do the same. I start with the date, then I write down the day's daily readings ( I have an awesome daily devotional that comes to my email every morning that contains the day's readings its called Blessed is She and I would totally recommend it for as a daily devotional for women) then I just write the parts of the verses that stuck out to me the most. After that i reflect on the readings devotion and write down what I think God wanted me to know. Then on the next page I start writing to God about my day. I tell him what I did, my highs and my lows what I am thankful for, basically just anything that is on my heart.

I love journaling this way and would suggest everyone do it, its not just an old people thing or a girl thing. Its one of my personal favorite tools that I use to get closer to Christ. I love re-reading past entries and seeing how God worked in my life. There will be days I read and remember being totally stressed then I turn to a week later and see how God was using people and situations to teach me and to mold me. It's really quite amazing.

Now I am not saying that I am now perfect at Journaling, I still miss days and sometimes don't include either a bible study or day reflection, but if you start I can guarantee you won't stop. I think it would be so amazing if you began this journey with a friend, keep yourselves accountable for each day and share in this form of prayer together, maybe you guys can do your bible studies together. If you can't think of a person, just ask me!
